Food For Thought

Groceries and Health Food Stores

There's no special type of shopping establishment for plant based foods — they are found everywhere. The earth's wide variety of grains, beans, veggies, and fruits are naturally without meat, dairy, and eggs. There's even every day packaged foods. You need only to read the labels (which we hope all people do anyway). Publix, and other major supermarkets, expanded their green/veg friendly section and now feature an excellent selection of brands that used to be found only in health food stores. At Publix, you'll find very delicious grain meats (meat analogs) — specifically Tofurky brand sausages and deli slices. Look in their produce/organic section. Grain meats are made from age old natural ingredients such as soy and wheat gluten (from wheat). These ingredients are versatile and cheap in their unprocessed form (found at whole food markets).

For a list of convenient vegan food items, by category, check out our extensive Vegan Groceries section. It comes with photos and information about substituting the variety of vegan grain meats and veggie based meats in to your current recipes.
